August 1938 and Bryn was transferred from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Arsenal for a world record fee of £14,000. A phenomenal amount of money at the time and I think it’s fair to say that the pressure must have had an effect on Bryn. However, world war II broke out just over 12 months later and by the time normality was resumed in 1945, Bryn’s best footballing years were behind him.
